Privacy Policy – QR Code Inspector

Zurich, Switzerland ("we"), develops and operates the "QR Code
Inspector" app. Protecting users' privacy is our highest priority.
Data Processing and Storage
Our service uses a system designed to protect you from potential
security threats such as phishing sites and harmful content. A
privacy-friendly method based on hash values is used for this purpose:
Verification:
When you scan a URL, the app applies a one-way mathematical function
(hashing) to the URL on your device. The resulting hash — not the URL
itself — is submitted in a single request to QR Inspector's server.
The server checks the hash against threat databases and returns a
safety verdict. No raw URL, hostname, path, or any readable form of
the link is ever sent to QR Inspector's servers.
Minimal Data Transfer:
Only a one-way hash is transmitted to QR Inspector's servers — never
the URL itself, the hostname, the path, or any other identifiable
portion of the link you scanned. Your scanning activity is not known
to QR Inspector's servers.
Privacy Protection:
This method ensures that no raw URLs are ever transmitted to our
servers. Your scanning activity remains private. This system enables
safe use of our service without revealing your personal data.
Checking Where a Link Leads:
Many QR codes contain web links, and some use shorteners or redirects
that hide their true destination. So that the safety check applies to
the real destination, when you scan a web link the app contacts the
linked website directly from your device — much as opening the link
would — to follow any redirects and determine where the link
ultimately leads. That final destination is then checked using the
privacy-friendly hash method described above. These requests go
straight from your device to the linked sites and reveal only what any
ordinary web request reveals, such as your device's IP address, to
those sites; no information about your scan is sent to QR Inspector's
servers. To keep this safe, the app limits how many redirects it will
follow and will not connect to links that point to private or internal
network addresses.
App Features
"QR Code Inspector" functions as a free and secure QR scanner. The app
identifies various types of QR codes, displays detailed information in
advance, and checks potentially harmful URLs. Additionally, it offers
safety tips for handling QR codes.
Data Sharing
We do not collect or store your scanning data, and we do not share
data with third parties. Any request the app makes to follow a scanned
link (see "Checking Where a Link Leads" above) goes directly from your
device to the linked site — it is not routed through, logged by, or
shared with us.
